welcomes you

About Us
We are America’s largest student-led living history organization—a passionate, nonprofit group of young historians dedicated to portraying Michigan’s Colored Regiment with the highest degree of historical accuracy. Based primarily in Mid-Michigan, our members—most under the age of 24—work together to preserve and honor this vital chapter of Civil War history. Through first-hand research, meticulously recreated uniforms, and heartfelt portrayals at living history events, parades, presentations, and memorial ceremonies across the state, we strive to educate both ourselves and the public. Our mission is to ensure that the bravery and sacrifice of these soldiers are never forgotten and that their legacy continues to inspire future generations.

Our Mission
The mission of the Gospel Army Black History Group is to inspire and educate America's youth about the rich history of American slave liberation, the role of the United States Colored Troops, and the power of their faith that motivated them. Through stories of American slave liberation, told from the perspective of contemporaneous African Americans and abolitionists, the enslaved people and USCT are portrayed as victors, not victims. Their adversities and achievements provide a powerful narrative of purpose and resiliency which offer meaning, purpose, and self-esteem to America's youth today.

"Thank God for Michigan!"
